Adelaide is a small city with a moderate climate. The city center is on a grid, surrounded by parklands, and there is easy transport into the city by bus and train.
The size of Adelaide can be a pro or con, based on your personal preference. That being said, for a smaller city, there is no lack of things to see and do. Locals are friendly and it is easy to find your way around. Meeting people can be difficult at first and it is important to be outgoing here.

English is the local language in Australia. It is very important to be fluent in English, especially if you are hoping to gain employment here. Dependent on what type of visa you come to Australia on, you may be eligible to attend free English Language classes.
Water is safe to drink. Cost of utilities varies but is not prohibitive.
http://www.seek.com.au is the best web site for job hunters. There are many recruitment agencies, although finding the initial job can be difficult if you are not a native speaker of English. Preparation is key.
Local currency is the Australian dollar. It is easy to set up a bank account on arrival with one of the major banks (ANZ, Westpac etc). Be sure to bring your passport with your arrival date stamp.
Medicare is government-provided health care, which you can top up with the purchase of private cover. Medicare is only available to persons on certain visas.
