Looking for work in another country requires more than just the obvious CV translation. You will be confronted with issues
that probably didn't even cross your mind when you decided to go for an international career, but don't underestimate
the big impact they can have on the outcome of your adventure! Think for example about the different rules and
habits regarding immigration, job application procedures, the selection procedures and the management culture.

1.
Learn Danish--free lessons are available to new residents. This is absolutely necessary if you want to thrive in Denmark . It's also a good way to meet other foreigners and make friends.
2.
Join an expat club to meet other people in a similar situation as you.
3.
Join a sport/hobby club, or volunteer for your local owners association or something similar: it's a good way to meet Danes.
4.
Play tourist for a few days--take a tour-bus, canal tour etc. It's a good way to get introduced to Copenhagen.
5.
Get a library card--Copenhagen has an excellent library system with books in many languages, as well as "learn Danish" books.

1.
Expect to be patient and persistent with the locals. They are very reserved when it comes to forming new personal bonds. So this takes time.
2.
Take the initiative. Invite people home. Often, if need be. These are not people who are used to welcoming anybody to their neighborhoods.
3.
Get clear about who you are – and what interests you.
4.
Learn the language. Danes pride themselves on their language skills – which do not reach as far as they think.
5.
Join expat networks. There are quite a few (mainly in the area of Copenhagen). But you need people around you who understand what you are going through.
