Looking for Work in Singapore

Looking for work in another country requires more than just the obvious CV translation. You will be confronted with issues that probably didn't even cross your mind when you decided to go for an international career, but don't underestimate the big impact they can have on the outcome of your adventure! Think for example about the different rules and habits regarding immigration, job application procedures, the selection procedures and the management culture.

1.
When looking for accommodation the main site to search is:
http://www.propertyguru.com.sg

2.
It is relatively easy to meet people in Singapore (especially if you have kids). I recommend joining St George's Mothers and baby group for new mothers to Singapore. It is run by the church but has no religious content. Very popular and can be waiting lists! Another great way to meet people is to join a sports club e.g Hockey Club, of which there are many in Singapore.

3.
Its mighty expensive, possibly one of the most expensive places in the world to buy a car due to heavy import taxes. On the other hand, their public transport systems (tube and bus) are some of the best systems in the world, very reliable, lots of pick up points and clean.

4.
Time out Singapore is a good place to register online for their weekly newsletter of events.

5. Yes the weather can be oppressive and I'm not convinced you ever get used to it but stay ahead by ALWAYS carrying an umbrella.
