As a married Expat Woman, I really identified with Pascoe’s book for expatriates whose marriages endure the unique pressures of international moves. She covers themes such as: the challenges of a dual career; parenting; money; sex and intimacy; and then goes onto to discuss what can be done when a movable marriage goes wrong and how to restore the balance to the marriage.
Pascoe has plenty of experience upon which to base her writing. She is a qualified journalist whose husband’s career in the diplomatic service took them all over Asia and Canada.
Her book is not filled with theory and psychobabble – it is easy to read, stimulates thought and offers some rationale behind the myriad of issues and emotions we experience in marriage.
Pascoe discusses how important it is to be able to talk to and communicate about each partner’s needs. Communication becomes even more critical to a successful marriage especially if one partner is away from home and the other is left to manage the home in a foreign country.
I liked Pascoe’s TOP FIVE list for a successful moveable marriage:
1. Consultation.
2. Respect and support.
3. Equality.
4. Certainty, and
5. Love.
I highly recommend Robin Pascoe’s book. It is packed full of advice and strategies to help you keep your moveable marriage on track.
