Take Spanish lessons before or upon arrival.
   
2.
Plan to have a car for transportation in-country, since buses are not safe nor reliable.
   
3.
There are many good locations for comfortable, safe and affordable housing; take the time to look around and make sure to bargain.
   
4.
Bargain all prices, even at the mall; ask for discount for paying cash or with a check.
   
5.
If arriving with children, there are many good options depending on academic requirements and financial situation; one should invest time into choosing a school that bests meets the family needs.
