1.
Keep an open mind.
2.
Don't expect things to be like they are in your country.

1.
Don't bring or purchase too much in advance. You can buy a lot of things and survive well here and anyway, South Africa is close by. I personally only bring washing powder – and even that you find here. If you have kids buy good shoes, but not too many. Most of the time kids will run around bare– footed.
2.
You may read that the security conditions are not at its best. That surely is true to some extend in Maputo. It is a very poor country! But come relaxed. You will have a great time.
3.
Be prepared that it isn't that easy to find a job, but sometimes even this is possible.
4.
A nice thing around here: you may have help in your household. So you may gain extra time. Think about a project you wanted to realize for a long time in your life e.g., doing a degree, writing, photography, sports.
5.
Bring patience – as things don't work out so well and quick as you are used to – and some new ideas how to prepare fish.
