Married with no children, I am a 40 year old textile technologist born and raised in Scotland; I worked in the textile/clothing industry in various locations in the UK for 15 years.
My husband and I have traveled extensively and talked about relocating to Asia for a number of years before finally taking the plunge; I joined a major Sportswear brand in 2004, based in Hong Kong, and I now develop and source Fabric from all over Asia. I work hard but I have a good work/life balance and at my age I need that.
As a result of our move my husband has totally changed careers. We just bought our own apartment in Hong Kong. So we are here to stay! I still love traveling and travel books and I would like to write one some day when I have time.

- Don't underestimate the cost and don't overestimate the size of typical accommodation.
- Be prepared to get out of town on the weekends; there is much more to Hong Kong that meets the eye. It has great scenery, walks, sports; something for everyone.
- Seek friends outside your work or your husband's work circle and don't be shy everyone is or has been in the same boat.
- Give yourself at least 6 months to settle; it isn't home and its going to be difficult at times and on the bad days remember that most of your friends at home would give their right arm to be you!
- Cleaners and laundries are sooooooo cheap. You need never vacuum or iron again.
