  My Biography

I am a freelance journalist, feature writer and photographer based in Cape Town, South Africa. Over the past five years I have contributed articles, features, travel stories and photographs to various media in and outside South Africa, such as newspapers, magazines, online publications, and internet magazines.

Much of my life has revolved around traveling. Originally from The Netherlands, I grew up in Angola and Rwanda. I also lived in the United States of America - New York and Michigan - for nearly a year and a half, I spent three months in Israel, and I visited various countries including Vietnam, Gabon, Tunisia, Turkey, Canada, and of course South-Africa.

I moved to Cape Town for a temporary job at a local newspaper. After 7 months, I decided to stay and the rest is ‘history’.

  My Top 5 Tips
  1. Look in the Cape Ads (every Thursday) for a place to stay. Your best bet will be a flat or house in the area’s Tamboerskloof, Gardens and Oranjezicht. These are situated close to the City centre and have a fab view over Table Mountai.

  2. Climb Lion’s Head (hill right of Table Mountain) during full moon for magical vista’s over your new city.

  3. Between September and December: keep an eye out for the ocean, as it is whale season. During these months, large pods of Southern Right whales migrate along the Cape Coast. A natural phenomenon, not to be missed.

  4. Be careful, not paranoid. Yes, there is crime in Cape Town, like there is crime in every city.

  5. Visit the townships! A good tour operator is Cape Capers. These areas are incredibly interesting and will give you a good idea about how history shaped this country.
