“Got A Wardrobe Full of Nothing To Wear?"
By Sue Donnelly
Are you one of those people that regularly look in your overcrowded wardrobe and still find that you have nothing to wear? You're not alone. We shop til we drop, yet nothing seems appropriate for the occasion? Could be you're suffering from the Pareto Principle.
Often called the 80/20 Rule, it came about when an Italian economist, Vilfredo Pareto, noticed that twenty percent of the people owned eighty percent of the wealth. Believe it or not, the same principle can apply to your wardrobe. I'd be willing to bet you wear twenty percent of your clothes, eighty percent of the time. Whilst it's always great to have choice, think how much that eighty percent is costing you.
To help you resolve this issue, I've created some tips so you will never again "have nothing to wear".
1. Throw out garments that don't fit, haven't been worn in 2 years, are torn, stained or out of date. If it doesn't look beautiful or make you feel gorgeous, out it goes.
2. Buy with your shape in mind. If you're curvy, you'll look best in fabrics that drape and skim. Straighter bodies need stiffer fabrics.
3. Don't buy anything new unless it goes with 3 items you already own.
4. Choose a colour scheme and build your wardrobe around it.
5. Use accessories (ties for men) to change your look.
6. Hang similar items together in the wardrobe. This will give you new ideas on how to mix and match.
7. Don't be seduced by designer labels - unless it looks fantastic.
8. Don't shop when desperate - you'll always make a mistake.
9. Enjoy your clothes. Let them express your personality and individual style.
