Happy New Year to you! We hope that have been enjoying the holiday season and that 2008 will be an amazingly abundant year for all of you. |
We are thrilled this month to share with you an – an Expat Celebrity Supermodel. Whilst some of you might not recognize the name, you might recognize her face – as she has graced the covers of many magazines across the globe, such as Vogue, Elle, Marie-Claire, Bazaar and many more. We are also pleased to have interviewed Rebecca from , Hilly and Bettina – authors of and our Mentor of the Month – in Belgium. |
January 16th marks our first year online as the only global expatriate women online community. The best birthday present you could give to us would be to participate by submitting your and your – and/or sending this newsletter on to as many of your expat women friends as possible. This would really kick-start the year for us and we would be incredibly grateful for your help! |
Thanks and enjoy!

Celebrity Supermodel |
Gail Elliott left the UK to model in Japan when she was just 17. Whilst her expat life didn't start smoothly, she didn't give up. Instead, she went on to become one of the world's top supermodels in the 1980's, travelling the world to work with top designers like Gianni Versace, Calvin Klein, John Galliano, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Prada and Marc Jacobs. |

One of my American friends, also married to a German, first told me of the mentality which captured perfectly what I had recognized in my husband, but had yet to label. This was the “pencils and apples” philosophy of how Christmas was supposed to be celebrated; born and bred in times of struggle and scarcity and nurtured by a frugal, non ostentatious people. |
