Taking It All In and Being Proud of Who You Are
Taking It All In and Being Proud of Who You Are

By Pamela Mattsson

It is so exciting to see new things and meet new people when you travel whether you are on a two week vacation or have relocated for months.  With open heart you take it all in and share who you are.

As you travel you begin to absorb other cultures, experience the beauty of far away places, or the magic of connecting with someone despite language issues.  It is so inspiring to observe and admire aspects of other people and other cultures.  However, as we begin to compare ourselves and our cultures we may begin to judge things about ourselves or our cultures in a negative light.

It may be differing political views, history, our way of speaking, levels of personal space or what is humorous to us.  Savvy travelers have a way of “fitting in” by being able to lessen the external differences other than language through mirroring or simply the ability to connect with others.  However the differences are there and they are to be celebrated!  Differences are less about cultures and countries and more about the fact that we are all unique.

If you find yourself feeling awkward about who you are or sensitive about where you come from, I invite you to remember that who you are is just as unique and special as the people you meet.  Where you come from has helped to shape you into the wildly wonderful person who wishes to see and experience the world.  With a balance of pride for your own culture and a welcoming spirit to others, you will have a healthy appreciation for the hills and valleys everywhere.  Happy Trails!

some well-known programs, like Wyndham timeshare allow you to exchange with other resort owners.
